It occured to me while running . . .

That faith, like endurance, is not something we create, but rather, by continually pushing ourselves to the limits of our ability, we discover, when life next requires it, that there has been created in us a greater capacity for it.

In other words, we are actively involved in the process of growth, but we don't actually make it happen. Insert also patience, love, grace, compassion, etc. The same also applies to competitive eating, I'm pretty sure.

Other thoughts: Its a good thing I don't believe in signs. A bird dropped dead out of the sky and landed next to us the other day when we were walking. Omens Shmomens. But I switched my deodorant just in case.
